Yoga on Boston Avenue June 20 Celebrates Summer Solstice

June 19, 2024 — More than 900 people have registered to attend this week’s Namastreet Downtown Yoga event, which will close a portion of South Boston Avenue for public yoga, meditation and live music to celebrate the Summer Solstice. Presented by Downtown Tulsa Partnership from 5:30-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, the event is free and open to the public. No experience is needed, and all ages are welcome.

Instructors from Downtown studio Updog Yoga will lead attendees in yoga practice, followed by a sound bath meditation from Sana Meditation. Following the class, local musician Donny Vinn will perform while food vendors et al.Inheritance JuiceryFrios Gourmet Pops and Bondi Bowls serve light bites and frozen treats available for purchase. Event sponsors are Experience Tulsa, Updog Yogalululemon, and Bounceless.

“It’s amazing to see the response to this year’s Namastreet Yoga event, both in terms of event registrations and support from the local business community,” said Morgan Phillips, DTP’s Director of Marketing & Experience. “We look forward to gathering to activate Downtown in a unique way that showcases the vibrance and energy of our neighborhood.”

Those who register for the event on Eventbrite by 9 a.m., June 20, are eligible to win prizes at the event from local businesses, including lululemon, GoodyTwos Toffee Co., En Fuego at Guthrie GreenTGI PromoIda RedVisit Tulsa, and more. The first 100 people to arrive will also receive gift cards for free yoga classes from Updog Yoga.

Street parking is free Downtown after 5 p.m., or participants can park for a fee in one of these nearby parking garages or lots. Boston Avenue from 4th to 5th Streets will be closed starting at 4 p.m. for event set-up.

The Summer Solstice is the longest day and shortest night of the year, and occurs when one of Earth's poles has its maximum tilt toward the sun. Downtown Tulsa Partnership (formerly the Downtown Coordinating Council) originally hosted Summer Solstice Yoga on Boston Avenue in 2019 in partnership with Clare Ballew, former owner of Press Yoga. The event was resurrected in 2023 as Namastreet Downtown Yoga and will be a recurring annual event in Downtown Tulsa.
