Downtown Tulsa Celebrates New Bakery With July 26 Ribbon Cutting

July 24, 2024 — The Downtown Tulsa business community will celebrate the grand opening of Slate Sourdough, 11 E. Reconciliation Way, at a ribbon cutting outside the new shop at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 26. Parking will be available on the street or at a nearby private lot.

Speakers will include Emily Scott, Director of Planning & Vitality for Downtown Tulsa Partnership (DTP), and Breanna MacAlpine, owner of Slate Sourdough.

Breanna and her husband, Lawrence, started Sourdough Tulsa four years ago as a movement to make sourdough more accessible in Tulsa. They have provided traditional, slow-fermented sourdough to shops, markets and sourdough subscribers in Tulsa.

Slate Sourdough is a new Downtown sourdough bakery in the heart of the Tulsa Arts District serving menu items such as traditional loaves, baguettes, coffee cakes, cinnamon rolls and morning buns with local, seasonal fruit. The bakery is open 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (or until items sell out) on Fridays and Saturdays.

“Quality ingredients are of the utmost importance to us, including organic flour and non-GMO products,” said Breanna MacAlpine. “The Downtown Tulsa community has asked us to be here many times over the years, and we are grateful and excited to unveil Slate Sourdough, Downtown’s artisan sourdough bakery.”

The MacAlpines previously operated a storefront in this location during Winter 2023-24 as part of DTP’s award-winning Pop-Up Downtown program that allows entrepreneurs to test the Downtown Tulsa market through affordable short-term leases in ground-floor retail spaces. By opening Slate Sourdough, Sourdough Tulsa joins two other 2023-24 Pop-Up Downtown participants, LAMIK Beauty and Da’ Shade Room Eyewear, who have continued their Downtown tenancy.

“We are so excited to see Slate Sourdough call Downtown its new permanent home,” Scott said. “Lawrence and Breanna exceled in the Pop-up Downtown program this holiday season, and their products have become a beloved mainstay around Tulsa, including at the Downtown Farmers Market on Wednesday nights at Sixth and Main.

“Small businesses like Slate Sourdough are the lifeblood of our city, driving economic growth, fostering local connections, and contributing to the unique cultural fabric that makes Downtown Tulsa thrive.”

Following the ribbon cutting, the community is invited to stick around for fresh sourdough to sample or purchase, giveaways, and trivia. The store will be open until 2 p.m. (or sellout) on Friday. Slate Sourdough will also have open doors from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. (or sellout) on Saturday, July 27.
