Downtown Tulsa is at a pivotal crossroads. Significant investments over two decades have brought new energy and opportunity to the urban core. Yet, more recent public safety challenges – from homelessness and mental health crises to violent incidents – erode and threaten public confidence, economic momentum, and residential stability of our Downtown neighborhood.
Safer Together is a new and growing coalition of partners working toward the same goals. The group includes municipal government, law enforcement and first responders, social services outreach teams, the business community and philanthropy. Some partners are doing tactical work and others are simply helping get the word out. Everyone matters.
We are always better together, smarter together, and more successful – TOGETHER.
Safer Together is a series of priorities. It’s a public information campaign. It’s a collective commitment to foster a Downtown where all people feel safe, welcome, and supported whether they live, visit, or do business here. Safer Together presents a comprehensive framework to address community safety through a balance of visible presence and response, social services outreach, policy advocacy, and enforcement when necessary. It also includes environmental best practices such as adequate lighting, walkability, cleanliness and access to help when needed.
This strategy outlines specific actions to be implemented by the public and private sectors through strategic partnerships. It requires collaboration as no single entity can do this alone. We invite you to join the coalition and commit to supporting a vibrant and resilient urban center.
Primary objectives:
Enhanced Safety and Security - Increase visible safety coverage across Downtown, especially in high-traffic areas, to deter and enforce criminal activity, address negative perceptions about safety, and respond effectively to moments of need.
Improved Quality of Life - Address the root causes and impacts of unsheltered homelessness, mental health crisis, and immediate public environmental needs to enhance the overall quality of life for all stakeholders.
Community Engagement - Build trust and positive relationships with Downtown stakeholders including residents, businesses, and visitors, through active public information sharing, coordination, and meaningful engagement.
