He is founder of the Creative Class Group, advising companies such as BMW, Audi, Starwood Hotels, Facebook, Instagram, Converse and Microsoft, and serves as a board member with many of the leading real estate, urban innovation and venture capital firms across the globe.
Florida is the author of numerous books, including the best-selling The Rise of the Creative Class, which traces the growing role of creativity in the American economy. The book was awarded the Washington Monthly's Political Book Award and Harvard Business Review's Breakthrough Idea Award.
Downtown Tulsa’s urban place management organization, DTP, annually publishes the State of Downtown Tulsa report, an in-depth and data-rich snapshot of ongoing development and economic growth in Downtown. Among many other highlights, the 2024 report to be released April 18 addresses:
- Significant recent milestones for Downtown Tulsa, such as post-pandemic visitor recovery
- Investment in the emerging Academic Medical District and innovation economy investments
- The conversion of Downtown commercial buildings into residential and strategies to meet the demand for more affordable housing
- The changing demographics of Downtown residents
“The theme of the 2024 State of Downtown report is ‘A Downtown in Transition,’ and that certainly speaks to the changes we’ve navigated in recent years, as well as the opportunities that lie ahead,” said Brian Kurtz, DTP’s President and CEO. “We celebrate the new investment and development seen over the past 12 months while recognizing that our challenges require bold action and a collaborative approach to propel Downtown Tulsa forward to its next chapter.”
A reception will follow the State of Downtown presentation, with live music from Nicholas Foster and Cody Brewer and food from Sisserou’s Carribean Restaurant. Event tickets are still available at DowntownTulsa.com.
The 2024 State of Downtown event is made possible by the support of sponsors Tulsa Innovation Labs (TIL) and The Vista at 21. Recognizing that the jobs of the future are rooted in a thriving innovation economy, TIL was founded with support from the George Kaiser Family Foundation to establish a city-wide strategy for inclusive, tech-led growth. The Vista at 21, located in the Historic Greenwood District, provides an incredible customer experience in a space that boasts Tulsa’s largest terrace, offering sweeping views of Downtown Tulsa.
DTP also thanks its membership, including premier members Bank of Oklahoma, Williams, McNellie’s Group, and Tulsa Community College. Members support the organization’s capacity to enhance Downtown programs, events and experiences such as expanded Clean & Safe programs and business support services.
