Downtown Days of Wonder Campaign Receives International Award of Excellence in Urban Place Management
Oct. 22, 2024 — The International Downtown Association (IDA) recently recognized Downtown Tulsa Partnership (DTP) with the Downtown Achievement Award of Excellence for its 2023-24 Downtown Days of Wonder holiday campaign. The Award of Excellence acknowledges an excellent response to an urban place management challenge and demonstrates application of industry knowledge, according to a jury of peer professionals.
Downtown Days of Wonder was entered in the category of Marketing, Communications and Events, which IDA identifies as one of the seven professional urban place management practice areas. This category features unique organizational approaches and projects in the areas of branding, public relations, marketing strategies and communications plans.
Downtown Days of Wonder is a collaborative campaign to attract locals and visitors to Downtown Tulsa during the holiday season. DTP manages a holiday website, DowntownDaysofWonder.com, with Downtown-wide events and other relevant holiday information. DTP’s other holiday initiatives include street tree lighting and seasonal decorations in the public realm; the award-winning Pop-Up Downtown program, which matches emerging entrepreneurs with ground-floor level vacancies; and Shop Downtown, which incentivizes shopping at Downtown retailers.
Building on the success of the award-winning 2023 campaign, the 2024 Downtown Days of Wonder campaign will kick off with a press conference at 10:30 a.m., Oct. 30, at LaFortune Studio inside the Tulsa Performing Arts Center, 110 E. Second St. DTP and the organizations behind some of Downtown’s most popular holiday attractions will announce their upcoming plans, and seasonal refreshments will be served.
“In collaboration with our Downtown partners, Downtown Days of Wonder has helped DTP better connect and market existing holiday attractions, as well as encourage new initiatives to benefit Downtown visitors, residents, workers and businesses,” said Morgan Phillips, DTP’s Director of Marketing and Events, who accepted the award at IDA’s annual conference in September 2024 in Seattle. “We are honored by this recognition from the IDA and look forward to new initiatives and enhanced partnerships during the winter 2024-25 holiday season.”
“Downtown Tulsa has demonstrated skillful application of urban place management principles with Downtown Days of Wonder,” said David Downey, IDA President and CEO. “This campaign should serve as a framework to all member communities within IDA.”
