World's Largest Augmented Reality Mural Complete In Downtown Tulsa

(Tulsa, OK) - Following a competitive selection process, a new large-scale mural is complete at the Main Park Plaza parking garage, 410 S. Main St. 

The mural, known as “The Majestic,” spans approximately 15,000 sq. ft. on the east and north sides of the building. It is the world's largest augmented reality mural. 

“The work that has gone into this portion of the Main Street corridor in Downtown Tulsa is extraordinary, and to have one of the most unique pieces of art in our city at this location speaks volumes to the work that many have championed over the past several years in this area,” Mayor G.T. Bynum said. “I want to thank TAEO, the Downtown Tulsa Partnership, the Arts Commission and the extremely talented artists for breathing life into this area of Downtown and giving Tulsans the opportunity to gain new, world-class experiences in our city.” 

The art was commissioned by the Tulsa Parking Authority, which merged with the Tulsa Authority for Economic Opportunity (TAEO) and is supported by the Arts Commission and Tulsa Planning Office. 

“This transformational investment sets the standard for how we intend to leverage our assets and resources to spur revitalization throughout Tulsa - and is proof of the role arts and beautification play in economic development,” TAEO Executive Director Kian Kamas said. “We look forward to seeing how The Majestic brings more people Downtown to the businesses in this building and the surrounding area.” 

Los Angeles-based artists Ryan “Yanoe” Sarfati and Eric “Zoueh” Skotnes collaborated to design and paint the mural. A community engagement committee of area stakeholders provided input on the final design, which was approved by the Tulsa Parking Authority and Arts Commission of the City of Tulsa. 

“The Majestic mural, combined with TAEO’s additional public realm investments at Main Park Plaza, have reawakened Main Street,” Downtown Tulsa Partnership President Brian Kurtz said. “Place enhancement investments like this are critical to Downtown’s continued evolution and the Downtown Tulsa Partnership congratulates and thanks TAEO for leading this transformative project.” 

 The Majestic includes art deco signs and symbols, including the angel at the center representing guidance, protection and love. The two children the angel holds personify the youth of Tulsa and the foliage and fauna set within the art illustrate the literal and metaphorical growth of the city. The art includes plants and animals native to Oklahoma, including the scissortail flycatcher, flathead catfish, paddlefish, eastern redbud flowers, swallowtail butterflies, roses and magnolia trees. The sculptural design element framing the mural is inspired by Tulsa’s rich art deco history and serves as a window actively inviting viewers into the ethereal world. 

Users can use their mobile device on site to access a 3D interactive experience via QR code where the artwork is activated to come alive with animations and audio content.
