Winter Weather Update, January 8

January 8, 2025

Category:  Clean and Safe

Update 1/10/25 10:30 AM

The City of Tulsa has deployed plows and snow removal trucks across the City and, as of this morning, Downtown roads are clear and completely passable. Conditions will continue to improve throughout the day with snow moving out of our area and temperatures rising throughout the day. Wet surfaces are likely to freeze with temperatures dropping again overnight.

DTP Ambassadors deployed yesterday and again this morning to remove accumulated snow from pedestrian areas and sidewalks on the Boulder, Main, Boston, Cincinnati, and Detroit Avenue Bridges as required by DTP’s Services Agreement with the City of Tulsa. Once these sidewalk areas are cleared, teams will concentrate on snow removal from ADA ramps in high traffic and populated business and entertainment areas. Ambassadors will deploy again on Saturday morning to monitor and treat potential icy conditions.

The latest Winter Weather Update from the City of Tulsa was released this morning. Please continue to monitor the City of Tulsa Press Room for additional updates and news.

Winter weather and freezing temperatures have and will continue to move into the area. Cold weather can pose a danger to the health and safety of Tulsa residents, and proper care should be taken to reduce exposure to these conditions. You can view the latest National Weather Service forecast here

If you're navigating Downtown Tulsa this week, here are a few helpful things to remember:

Warming Stations and Assistance
The Downtown Tulsa Ambassadors are working in partnership with service providers and emergency personnel to direct individuals in unsheltered conditions to warming stations (see list below). If you see someone in Downtown in need of assistance, please call or text the Ambassador Team at 918-202-4093 during our hours of operation. You can also fill out an outreach request form with Housing Solutions here.

Downtown Businesses
Some Downtown Tulsa businesses and venues may adjust their operating hours due to the weather, so please check with your destination in advance to ensure they are open. You can access a list of Downtown businesses and establishments here.

Snow and Ice Removal
If snow and/or ice removal is required later this week, the City of Tulsa will clear and treat streets throughout Downtown and other areas of the city. Downtown Ambassadors will remove snow and apply ice melt to sidewalks on the Boulder, Main, Boston, Cincinnati, and Detroit Avenue bridges crossing the BNSF Railroad as needed per DTP’s services agreement with the City of Tulsa. After these areas are cleared, Ambassadors will prioritize treating ADA ramps at major pedestrian intersections whenever possible.

Property owners are responsible for removing snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their buildings and properties per City Ordinance Title 27 Chapter 12.12. Please be good neighbors and do your part to keep sidewalks clear of snow and ice.
