Greenwood Art Project In Downtown Tulsa

May 28, 2021

Category:  Public Art

We’ve partnered with the Greenwood Art Project to bring their poster project to Downtown Tulsa. Street lights throughout Downtown Tulsa are currently displaying Greenwood Art Project posters designed by fellow Tulsans. Additionally, businesses in Downtown Tulsa have posters from the Greenwood Art Project displayed in their front windows.

About the Greenwood Art Project

The Greenwood Art Project was conceived as a platform for those with connections to Tulsa to reflect on the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre that took place in the prosperous Black neighborhood of Greenwood known as Black Wall Street. The goal for the centennial commemoration of the massacre was to create an opportunity for everyday Tulsa's to be heard, share their creative voices without restraint. Graphic design posters are generally considered more accessible than traditional fine artmaking because they are made to be eye catching, informative and temporary for the masses. Making posters can also be very easy because they traditionally don't require any specific tool.

This  allows for children, senior citizens, students, inmates and people from all walks of life to participate by creating and having their expressions directly engaged by the public at large.

You can view the banners throughout Downtown Tulsa on Archer St., Greenwood Ave., 1st Street, 2nd Street, 3rd Street, Cincinnati Ave., Boston Ave., and Main St.
