Details
Join the YMCA every Thursday in July for a free High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) workout. HIIT features functional, full-body exercises usually lasting 30-60 minutes. The class focuses on burning calories and building strength through circuits of bodyweight movements, cardio, and, sometimes, equipment like dumbbells or bands.
Key Characteristics of a HIIT class:
Intensity and Efficiency: Designed to raise the heart rate quickly for maximum calorie burn and cardiovascular endurance in a short amount of time.
Full-Body Focus: Combines strength training (push-ups, squats, lunges) and cardio (jumping jacks, running, burpees) in one session.
Group Environment: High-energy group setting that offers camaraderie, motivation, and accountability among participants.
Accessible to Most Levels: While challenging, instructors provide modifications to ensure individuals of various fitness levels can participate.
Functional Training: Exercises focus on improving movement for daily life, strengthening muscles, and improving agility.
Bodyweight Strength and Conditioning
A bodyweight strength and conditioning group fitness class is a training session that uses an individual's own body weight and gravity as the primary resistance to improve muscular strength, endurance, functional movement, and cardiovascular fitness. Often referred to as calisthenics or bodyweight training, these classes are designed to be accessible, efficient, and adaptable to all fitness levels, typically requiring little to no equipment.
